Woodlouse Conservation were delighted to work on The Old Reading Rooms, a key historical property within Wiveliscombe. Cement render had been applied to the beautiful Listed oriel window which had caused moisture to become trapped and the structural integrity severely compromised. Once the old render had been carefully removed, the full extent of rot was revealed. Working closely with the Listed Building’s Officer, exact replicas of the rotten timbers were made in oak and the period cast iron supporting struts were repaired. Additional oak woodwork was carefully restored along the cill. Once all supports were in place, the structure was covered in EML and a three-coat sponge-finish lime render applied. The application of fully breathable mineral silicate paint completed this fascinating conservation project.

We were completely satisfied with the result, with the way in which the work was carried out, how we were kept informed of progress and impressed by the cleanliness of the site
