The original beam of this hidden inglenook fireplace had unfortunately been sawn in half to accommodate the modern 1970’s ‘improvements’. This was removed and replaced with a matched reclaimed oak beam over 3.5m long – which took five men to move into place! When the Woodlouse team opened the aperture up, we were delighted to find the original quoin stones still intact. After sympathetic cleaning, all the stone work was lime pointed and the wall lime plastered. Reclaimed flagstones for the hearth and a new woodburner completed this most satisfying transformation.
